Electric Fuel Announces Details of Las Vegas Electric Transit Bus Events

- Public is Invited to Ride First Zero-Emission Zinc-Air Bus -

October 30, 2001 - Electric Fuel Corporation (Nasdaq: EFCX) today announced additional details of its November electric transit bus demo drive events in Las Vegas, including the schedule and venue of activities. The events will be hosted by the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC), a partner in the current demonstration and evaluation phase of the Federal Transit Administration's zinc-air electric bus program.

The main event on the morning of Tuesday, November 27 will include the first public presentation of the full-sized zero-emission transit bus, a press conference with invited congressional, government and industry dignitaries, and demonstration drives around Las Vegas.

The morning's activities will begin at 9 a.m. on the campus of the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, where the ground-breaking bus will be available for inspection by invited guests and members of the public. Attendees will be able to view and hear explanations on the revolutionary Electric Fuel zinc-air fuel cell system, the innovative electric drivetrain and motor, the air-conditioning system, and the driver's station. At 10 a.m. the formal proceedings will get underway, with a press conference featuring short speeches and questions from the press. From 11 a.m., the event will move to the streets of Las Vegas, as the electric bus will be driven around the city. During the demonstration drives, participants will not only have the opportunity to enjoy the views of Las Vegas points of interest, but also to experience the quiet, comfort and performance of electric transportation.

The public will have an additional opportunity to see and ride the bus on the evening of November 27, as additional demonstration drives are scheduled for 7 p.m., against the exciting neon backdrop of Las Vegas at night.

Because of the anticipated attendance of congressional leaders and other public officials, security concerns dictate that members of the public obtain invitations in advance. Anyone interested in attending is requested to contact Electric Fuel by sending an e-mail with contact details to EVinfo@electric-fuel.com, or by fax to (212) 529-5800.

Electric Fuel said that in addition to the activities for the general public and press, industry-only meetings would take up the rest of the schedule in Las Vegas. On the afternoon of November 27, a detailed presentation of the bus and its technologies will be made to transit operators from around the country, who will also have an opportunity to ride the zinc-air bus and get an impression of its performance. All of Wednesday, November 28, will be devoted to the professional peer review committee of the project.

Additional details of the Las Vegas events will continue to be publicized as they become available on the Company's EV website at www.electric-fuel.com/EV.

About the Electric Fuel Zinc-Air Transit Bus Program

The Electric Fuel Zinc-Air Electric Transit Bus Program was initiated in 1998, with the aim of developing and demonstrating a full-sized, all-electric, zero-emissions transit bus utilizing zinc air battery technology for transit.

The bus used in the program is a standard 40-foot transit bus, with a capacity of 40 seated and 37 standing passengers and a gross vehicle weight of 39,500 lbs. Transit buses require a large energy storage battery to power the vehicle while attending to passenger needs such as air-conditioning, handicapped access, etc. The Phase 2 work focuses on additional testing, and integrating ultracapacitor technology to maximize the energy and power capabilities of the bus. Electric Fuel recently announced that it had completed performance testing of the all-electric, zero-emission bus at various venues in New York State.
