EFRB Program (Zinc-Air EV Consortium)
A 4 year DM24 million program to develop a hybrid vehicle using Electric Fuel's Zinc-Air batteries as the primary energy source commenced in December 2000.

The vehicle design will be based on a Daimler Chrysler cargo van and will also use high power Varta batteries and ultracapacitors under development by Dornier GmbH and EPOC AG. The German Federal Science Ministry is co-funding the project with the consortium members and hopes it will lead to high performance clean electric transportation.

The German Post Field Test
In May 1998 the Deutsche Post AG, the German Postal Authority, successfully concluded its 2-year field test of postal fleet vehicles powered by the Electric Fuel zinc-air battery in Germany. During the field test postal vans powered by the Electric Fuel zinc-air battery system drove around the city of Bremen, Germany in postal service routes traveling a total of more that 40,000 miles (60,000 km) in all weather conditions. The vehicles were serviced at an Electric Fuel zinc-air 100 kg/hr regeneration plant built specifically for the field test.
